Rashma Patel
Director
B.ARCH (Honours) KZN, M.ARCH Wits
She holds a masters in Architecture from the University of the Witwatersrand. Before becoming a partner at TC Design Group, Rashma had founded her own practice, RPV Architecture, in 2012.
Starting from humble beginnings, Rashma grew her business into a QSE level within 5 years. The success of her practice, together with the award of two large scale Retail competition bids, namely The Kingsley Centre in Tshwane and Malvern Shopping Centre in eThekwini, enabled RPV Architects to become a major shareholder in an well-established Architectural firm, TC Design Group. This merger transformed the company into what is now known as TCRPV Architects. The Company now proudly stands, with 51% black female ownership and half of the 38 staff members across the Group are female.
Being true to her beliefs, Rashma has positioned herself to help enable women with similar circumstances to reach their career goals within the commercial architectural sector. Rashma has been instrumental in establishing the TCRPV Empowerment Initiative, which is a registered Non-profit organisation that empowers black females through various learnerships and annual architectural bursaries. “I feel all architecture should be relevant and reflect the society in which it serves. In South Africa, this should be extended beyond just gender roles to also include the various cultures that make up our proud heritage. Therefore, I believe that our architectural profession should be largely influenced by women, certainly of colour, in order to create a diverse environment within the design industry. This would result in successful solutions that influence, shape and inspire people,” says Rashma.
Michael Carey

Michael worked in architectural firms in London and New York for 6 years before joining TC Design Group in 2000. He always takes a fresh, holistic and socially responsible approach, respecting aggressive budgets and time schedules. His passion and energy with people is a key motivator for any project.
Michael has a bachelor’s of Architecture degree from the University of the Witwatersrand and his key area of expertise lies in commercial, industrial and educational projects influenced largely by sustainable design principles. Michael remains dedicated to making a positive impact. As Managing Director he acts with a long-term perspective and takes responsibility, bringing passion to the company and making sure our staff are working as one team with shared goals.
Michael is proud to be one of the founding members behind the TCRPV Architects merger.
Philip Thornhill
Director
B.ARCH (KZN) SACAP
Philip was schooled in KwaZulu-Natal and completed his architectural degree as well as masters at UKZN. In 2000 he joined TC Design Architects (which is now TCRPV Architects after merging with RPV Architects) in the Johannesburg office and worked primarily on educational buildings from conception to completion.
In 2006, on the back of large industrial projects in KZN, he relocated to Durban and has established a very successful commercial office specializing in warehousing, industrial and commercial projects. Recently the office has diversified into retail projects as well as residential developments.
Philip offers clients an excellent personal service and he strives to deliver great buildings on time and within budget. This service has ultimately created long term relationships with clients as well as consultants. Philip manages a very dynamic and collaborative office which has grown in experience and has completed a number of high profile buildings in KZN. Philip is also a proudly Unashamedly Ethical member.
Tim Prins
Associate Director

A firm believer in the concept of the “interconnected workplace”; Tim believes that one’s environment can positively influence not only performance and output, but physical and emotional wellbeing too.
Tim showed promise at an early age during his studies, consistently receiving the top student accolade and being nominated as a finalist in all the prestigious design competitions of the time. Having achieved his Degree in Interior Design, and since having furthered part of his training in Europe; Tim’s technical ability, design creativity combined with his passion ensures a high standard on all his projects as he continuously pursues international excellence in a local context.
Alongside TCRPV Architects; Tim’s projects have appeared in numerous publications and has even won a SAPOA award. Tim’s passion for sustainability lead to him becoming an Accredited Green Building Professional in 2014. Since then Tim has been involved with some of the first ever 6-Star (World Leadership), 5-Star (South African Excellence) and 4-Star (Best Practice) interior projects. As a result the Green Building Council of South Africa even nominated TCRPV Architects as their interior deign and project managers of choice for the fit-out of their Johannesburg Office.
Tim’s expertise and portfolio covers all facets of commercial design including Workspace, Hospitality, Education and Retail.
Chris Lombard
Associate Director

Chris joined TC Design Architects in 2007 and continues to be part of the TCRPV Architects team after the merger with RPV Architecture in 2018.
With a keen interest in detailing and construction methods and materials, Chris enjoys the challenges of developing a design concept into a fully functional buildable solution.
With +10 years’ experience in the architectural and built environment, Chris approaches all projects with a practical, logical mindset and believes key elements are decisiveness and clear communication as he often acts as link between client, professional team and contractor with a hands-on attitude.
With experience in a wide field of work such as education, fitness, commercial offices, and industrial works, his passion remains industrial projects in the motor manufacturing industry with a high level of technical challenges.
